It has been several years since I was enrolled in college courses, but I remember how at times I felt like a professor’s generosity was also a curse. Sometimes, my professors would make writing assignments due the class session after Spring Break. They would explain to the students that we could turn in an assignment before Spring Break if we wanted, but everyone could also wait to turn it in if we wanted the time over break to “polish” our papers. The professors were being kind—and honest that they would not grade anything over break—but I found that generosity to be a double-edged sword. One year, about a dozen books and my laptop traveled back and forth to Key Largo with me, only never to haven been opened or turned on. Needless to say, I rushed to write my paper once I got back from break.
Hopefully, you have better time management strategies than I did. But if you don’t, here’s a resource that can help you “polish” those papers you’ve been working on all Spring Break. The Revision Strategies handout provides you with some techniques for revising a paper when you only have a limited amount of time.
